Ran out from the command in pursuit of a dismounted Indian; was shot down and badly wounded by a bullet from his own command./n Sergeant Co-Rux-Te-Chod-Ish was one of the Pawnee Scouts serving with the U.S. Cavalry during the Indian Campaigns in the West. When a group of hostile Indians attacked his unit at Republican River, Kansas, on July 8, 1869, Co-Rux-Te-Chod-Ish left the command to pursue a dismounted Indian attacker. While in front of his own firing line in pursuit of the enemy warrior, he was accidentally shot and wounded by a stray bullet from his own men. On this same day, Corporal John Kyle also earned the Medal of Honor at Republican River.
